The NYC AOD Consortium is geared towards meeting the needs of members by providing opportunities to network with one another, give and receive feedback on specific program activities, and serve as a forum for opportunities of professional development.

Each meeting is made up of three main components: 1) a discussion of recent news and changes in local and state policies regarding high risk drinking and other drug use prevention among college students; 2) a Dare to Share session where members share recent activities from their own campuses such as National Alcohol Awareness Week; and 3) Presentations - either mini workshops by an invited expert to expand members professional knowledge and work in the field or presentations by local community based organizations to introduce their organizations services to the colleges and universities present. Some of the most recent topics have included:

  • Evaluation techniques for assessing the effectiveness of alcohol and other drug prevention activities and programs on campus - Patrick Johnson, Columbia University
  • Environmental Management on Urban campuses including a discussion on the importance of developing and AOD task force - Ruth DeRosa, St. John's University
